While taking a number plate check, if you see an error while entering the number plate, please check the following:
You may not have entered the number plate accurately. It’s quite common; many people enter one or two digits incorrectly.
We cannot check non-UK registered vehicles. Your number plate must only be in the legal UK format.
If the number plate is on retention, i.e. not assigned to any vehicle with the DVLA, it may not work.
If the number plate you enter does not generate a report, then you will see an error irrespective of any reason. It does not necessarily mean that the number plate is invalid.
