15. My report shows MOT advisories. What do they indicate?

All vehicles registered in the UK will have their first MOT after three years from registration which is mandatory. To know about exempt vehicles, click here.

Advisory notes are given as guidance as part of the MOT test result recorded by the DVSA. They highlight issues from the test, which are MOT-related and future component failure predictions (our free mot history check reports show what is most likely to fail its next MOT).

Although the test result is Pass/Fail, the warnings or advisories should not be ignored as they could affect the roadworthiness/ resale value of the vehicle.

If you think the MOT expiry date or any of the vehicle details are wrong: contact the DVSA.
